Quick Facts
- National Voter Registration Day is the nation’s largest nonpartisan civic holiday focused on voter registration.
- If you’ve moved, changed your name, or changed your mailing address, it’s important to update your voter registration before Election Day.
- California offers online voter registration, and eligible voters can also register in person if they miss the standard registration deadline through Same Day Voter Registration (Conditional Voter Registration).
- Every active registered California voter will receive a vote-by-mail ballot for the November 3, 2026, General Election.
Key California Election Dates
September 22 – National Voter Registration Day
October 5 – County elections officials begin mailing vote-by-mail ballots.
October 6 – Official ballot drop boxes begin opening across California.
October 19 – Last day to register to vote before the November 3 General Election.
November 3 – General Election Day. If you missed the October 19 registration deadline, eligible Californians may still be able to register and vote in person through Same Day (Conditional) Voter Registration at participating locations.
