Voters in California’s 20th Congressional District will vote in a special election today. The election is being held to replace former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who left Congress after losing control of the House.
The vote today is an open primary, with both Republicans and Democrats on the ballot. If no one wins 50% of the vote, the top two vote getters advance to a runoff on May 21.
BWOPA California supports Yes on Proposition 3 because strong public schools and access to health care are essential to thriving families and communities. Proposition 3 would make permanent the existing voter-approved income tax rates on high-income Californians that are scheduled to expire in 2031.
With less than 25 days until Election Day, BWOPA California is encouraging every voter to get informed, make a plan and help others prepare to participate. Our voices carry power—and voting is one way we put that power into action on the issues affecting our families and communities.
National Voter Education Week is a nationwide, nonpartisan, push to close the gap between being registered and getting the resources you need to feel comfortable participating in the upcoming November 3, 2026, General Election.
